Powerful, hope-infused sound that embodies peace in action

Challenge
Our goal for Pax's Maak Werk van Vrede campaign was to craft a sonic identity that embodies the organization’s tireless commitment to peace. Pax’s approach is marked by steady determination and a legacy of thoughtful, strategic action. The sonic brand needed to be impactful yet accessible, serious but hopeful, reflecting Pax’s dedication to progress and unity. We aimed to create a sound that resonates with a wide audience, transcending generations and backgrounds, while avoiding any aggressive or confrontational tones. The sound had to convey a sense of peace in motion, capturing Pax’s unique approach to peacebuilding.
Output
The result is a sonic identity that balances purposefulness and sophistication. At its core is a steady, one-note bassline paired with organic percussion, which gives a sense of ongoing work and persistence without aggression. This driving rhythm is interspersed with "accent stabs" from physical instruments, adding emphasis and drawing attention to key moments in the campaign’s messaging. To bring more humanity and warmth, we introduced a cello that plays in sync with the bass, blending beautifully with electronic elements. This creates a unique contrast, symbolizing Pax’s innovative, balanced approach to peace. The sonic branding concludes with a distinctive sound logo: a single, legato note in the D major family that gently glides from A to D. This final note has a soft attack and a longer decay, adding a sense of resolution and spaciousness. Subtle reverb enhances the sound’s human touch, making it feel open and welcoming. Finally, to further symbolize peace in action, the sound of fluttering dove wings is woven into the background, reminding listeners that peace is dynamic and constantly evolving. The overall result is a sophisticated, clear, and approachable sonic identity that captures Pax’s mission—a hopeful, ongoing journey toward a better future.
