Cinematic soundscapes that transform Rotterdam's iconic view into an experience.
Challenge
An iconic view calls for an equally unforgettable experience. As part of the Euromast’s redesign in Rotterdam, Woodwork Amsterdam was tasked with creating two immersive films: a panoramic journey and a brand story. The challenge? To elevate both with cinematic audio that matched not only the scale of the visuals — but the stature of the landmark itself.
Output
We composed bespoke music for the panoramic film, using real instruments to amplify the emotional arc of the 360° visual journey. For both films, we crafted full sound design — adding depth, motion, and atmosphere through carefully layered effects and ambiences. We also handled voice casting, selecting voices with the right tone and delivery to support the storytelling. All elements were brought together in immersive 5.1 surround sound, resulting in an experience as expansive and dynamic as the Rotterdam skyline.

To bring depth and warmth to the soundtrack, we recorded live string players. Their natural expression and subtle imperfections added a human quality that can't be replicated digitally — enhancing the emotional resonance of the visuals.
For moments that called for intimacy and subtlety, we recorded a real piano performance. The organic dynamics and tactile sound of the keys brought a sense of closeness and authenticity that grounded the experience in something deeply personal.

Sound design brought the story to life. Layered textures, spatial effects, and subtle details took viewers back in time — to the origins of the Rotte and the birth of Rotterdam. Every sound deepened the sense of presence and historical transformation.
Sound design guided the audience through Rotterdam’s origins. From delta winds to rising water, layered 5.1 sound brought history to life. Key moments — like a crashing wave — activated visitors, urging them to move, respond, and take part in shaping the city’s story.
